Glen Bell recognized the popularity of Mexican food as a small hot dog stand owner and operator in San Bernardino, California. By 1952, Bell had a new stand named Taco-Tia with only tacos. His empire grew steadily as he bought and sold El Taco restaurants throughout Southern California. Bell opened the first Taco Bell in Downey, California in 1962.
